Project Description

Electrium is one of the UK’s leading electrical engineering groups with manufacturing and assembly operations in multiple locations.

Biomass Silo Systems were contracted to design and install a silo and fuel loading system for a new wood chip boiler installation at one of their plants in Manchester providing heat and hot water to their offices, canteen, and air handling units.

We designed a special 45-degree conical base for the silo to suit a pendulum extractor supplied by the boiler company. ATEX explosion panels were placed on the roof and an access door in the bottom to allow for regular cleaning and maintenance. The silo also had an access ladder and high-level inspection hatch as per the customer’s request.

This specific boiler was designed to run off wood waste from shredded pallets that would have previously cost money to dispose of with any extra fuel requirements being sourced from the locally produced wood chips.

These kinds of waste wood projects create huge savings in fuel costs and reduce landfill waste and the customer was so happy with the results that we were contracted to supply another almost identical system for another of the company’s plants in Wigan.
